The Fig & The Fig Wasp - A Thousand Tiny Fruits Art Print
This is a 8x10 inch specialty print of my Thousand Tiny Fruits digital painting on high quality smooth matte archival paper.
This digital painting depicts the love story of the fig and the fig wasp, as re-told in my zine Comfort Food.
"Obligate Mutualism is an inter-species relationship that skates upon the thin line between parasitism and mutualism. The fig tree and the fig wasp is a delicate relationship millions of years old in which neither species could survive or reproduce without the other. They have evolved together in an interdependent and inseparable cycle of sex, birth, and death in a transcendent spiral. Figs are a garden, a nursery, a mass mating chamber, and a death bed for the fig wasp. The two are locked together in their mutual desire to reproduce: the fig tree desiring to spread its pollen to another, and the wasp desiring a place to birth and nourish their children."
